LCHH's 2021 Build starts February 20

2021 NCG Build - Miller FamilyOur 33rd build began February 20, 2021. We are working with Habitat for Humanity of North Central Georgia. The house is located at 245 Shady Trail in Canton. The homeowners will be Sarai and Jamie Miller. Sarai, originally from Sacramento, attended high school in Decatur, Georgia. Continuing on to the Georgia Perimeter College and Georgia State, she completed a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences in 2015, then a Master's Degree in Public Health in 2018. She is enjoying her position as an Installation Services Coordinator with Home Depot where she has worked for over three years helping customers plan their home improvement projects. Her daughter Jaimie, currently in the second grade, likes school, especially math and reading. She also enjoys gymnastics, dance and educational games. They have been praying for guidance to a healthy and safe environment for their family. Now with their hard work and the help of Habitat for Humanity-NCG, those prayers are being answered for Sarai and Jamie Miller. See Photos of the build & dedication.

Participants should download the INFO PACKET which contains instructions for online registration/sign-up (including online adult/child waivers), work instructions, directions to the site, directions to the parking location, and bio of the 2020 family.

Release forms

There are no longer paper waiver forms for adults as it is all done online. There is a waiver box to check when you register online to work on a build project and to sign up for a particular date. This is done in two parts. First, a volunteer profile must be created if you don't already have one from a previous build with North Central Georgia. Then after signing in with your volunteer profile (you'll need your email, first name and password), you can register for a work date. This link will allow you to do both: http://cerv.is/m?0251rlutherancoalition. This link and detailed instructions are in the INFO PACKET download mentioned above.

General Build Information

DRESS: Wear work boots or sturdy gym shoes; jeans or work clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a hat and wear sunscreen. Loose fitting clothing should be avoided because they can catch on ladders or tools.

WHAT DO YOU BRING?: Bring work gloves, hammer, measuring tape, pencil, tool belt and nail apron if you have them. Put your name on anything you want to be sure to get back. Some tools will be available there, but if you have your own, it saves you from the possibility of there not being enough to go around. Due to the coronavirus, breakfasts and lunches will NOT be served. It is up to each volunteer to bring their own. Please plan to arrive by 8:40 am at the latest. The workday will conclude at 3:00 pm. Water will be available throughout the day at the site.

BE SAFETY CONSCIOUS!! If you ever have safety questions concerning a task assigned to you, please talk to the house leader or a crew leader. Look before you hammer! Being accidentally hit or hitting someone else with a hammer can be avoided if we are aware of those around us. Only lift loads that you feel comfortable with and use your legs instead of your back. With so many volunteers on site, there are always enough hands to help out. Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. If you have waited until you are actually thirsty, it is too late! Be aware of your body’s response to high humidity and heat. Do not overwork yourself and rest as needed.

CANCELLATIONS: If the weather is so bad that you don’t want to work, don’t go. Otherwise, if it is unpleasant but tolerable, work will be going on.
