Welcome from the members of the "Lutheran Coalition for Habitat for Humanity" in Marietta, Georgia. We use this website as a convenient way to communicate with members of participating Lutheran congregations about schedules, needs for the current build, fundraising activities, future plans as well as sharing our activities with other interested persons. In addition, photos archive the history of the 18 homes built by the "Coalition" since it's inception in 1993. The first house was built in 1994. Members of Lutheran congregations in Cherokee County, Cobb County & Fulton County, Georgia have joined together to help provide simple decent housing for lower income families.

First Nail and construction will start on time tomorrow [Saturday March 8]. Wear layered clothing for comfort and varying temperatures. The only thing to shut us down would be lightening. See you there on time [early if you plan to eat at the site].

Fundraising for another house

"Lutheran Coalition for Habitat" members with promotional items they were selling at the annual "Faith LC" "Holiday Craft Shop". Continued fund raising by the "Coalition" assures a continuing stream of homes for deserving families.

July 8, 2007 - 4 PM Dedication

The dedication date for the Villegas' Family has been set for 4 p.m., July 7, 2007. The date can not come quick enough for Jennifer and Victor. Jennifer is already packed and ready to move.

Please join us for a reception following the dedication, take a tour of the finished home and wish all the Villegas' much love and happiness in their new home.

It may be necessary to change the youth landscape day on the Smyrna House as Cobb Habitat may not have the site work completed by the subs. [It may have to be moved from June 16 to June 23]

Your webmaster will not be on site for the 2007 builds as he has been since the "Lutheran Coalition for Habitat" was formed in 1993. In order to maintain this Internet site in 2007 I will need a person to keep me updated every Monday on the Saturday progress and plans for the following week. I will also need someone to take photos on a consistent weekly basis and get them to me. If the site is not kept current it will be no help to anyone. This would be an excellent way for a volunteer who feels less able to participate in the actual construction to become a very valuable member of the team. The Smyrna start date of April 14 is not far away.

2007 Plans

In 2007 the "Lutheran Coalition for Habitat" will again partner with "Thrivent for Lutherans" building one house with "Cobb County Habitat" in Smyrna and one with "N. Central Ga Habitat" in Canton.

Canton Build Day 09

I guess we are finished with the house as there is no work scheduled for next week. A contractor will install the floors during the week and "somebody" will do whatever punchout remains.

The dedication will be December 16 at 9:00 A.M.

I drove over this afternoon [Sunday] to get a picture of the completed landscaping and was surprised to see how much yard work remains. With the large turnout of volunteers yesterday I did not expect to see so much yard work yet to be done.

On this triplex build the "Coalition" volunteers and the other youth groups were thrown together to do landscaping in common areas etc. On previous builds "Our" youth have always finished up by lunch after putting down as many as 22 palats of sod, seeding other areas of grass and planting trees and bushes on lots as large as a half acre.

The Lutheran Coalition purchased the pizza for lunch.

As of 11/20/06 the Canton house dedication has been moved to Dec 16 to coordinate with the dedication of the other two units.

Day 8 - Canton Build

Touch up painting, installed shutters and, preped yard for landscaping on Dec. 2nd. "Calling all youth!" Ya'll have done a great job for the Coalition, the home owners and habitat every year since 1994!

No work next Saturday; off for Thanksgiving weekend.

Day 7 - Canton Build

Cool overcast day but nice for working. By the time I left at 1:00 P.M. the house nearly had two coats of paint on both the inside and outside. Except for one damaged door, the interior doors were in and over half of the base trim was installed and ready to paint. All the interior and exterior trim was being caulked. The entire house was to be cleand up to prevent damage to the already installed vinyl floors as the trades come in during the week to trim out the HVAC, electrical and plumbing.

Next Week [Nov 18] Group 2 churchs will have all kinds of general repair, cleanup, paint touchup, caulking, installations and prep for the landscaping which is scheduled to be done by the coalition youth on Dec 2nd.

November 25th will be an off day for the Thanksgiving weekend.

Plans for Day 7 - Canton build

Trim and painting will be the order of the day for tomorrow [Nov 11]. Trim includes hanging the interior doors, baseboards, etc..

Day 4 - Canton Build

It was cold in the morning but a great day for working as it warmed from the sun. The subs had not blown in the insulation [as planed] so most of the volunteers hung siding while a few put up the vinyl soffits. The insulation was to go in Monday the 23rd and if that is completed, the major job for this coming Sat. will be hanging drywall.

Group 1 is working next Saturday, Oct 28.

Day 3 - Canton Build
